Reflection

For Standards 1

I found myself improving on planning instructional strategies and guiding students to work together, having them do more dynamic activities like writing and drawing on the poster, search videos, practice speaking, and presentation. For this lesson, I have achieved my set goal which is to implement developmentally appropriate instruction that is challenging and achievable to  meet the cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical needs of learners.

For this performance, I still need to improve on how to use extensive  knowledge about learners’  growth and development as well  as knowledge of best practices. Frankly speaking, I am not that clear to demonstrate the best practice. The mentor suggests that I can have students practice more than one time on choral speaking and have each group read aloud the instructions. I will try to do that according to future lessons.

I feel that I’ve done well and improved on this criteria: regularly using a variety of instructional strategies and technology tools to meet students’ cognitive,  linguistic, social, emotional, and  physical needs.

For Standards 2

In this lesson, I think I did a great job on creating a positive classroom environment by consistently ensuring that learners feel valued and creating and fostering a climate of mutual  respect. When students are coming in, I always chat with them, getting to know how they feel this week and their talents. By doing this I know that we have a Hotkey national athlete and a  Lego coding expert. This makes students feel valued. During the lesson, I have students work together to make their posters to present their knowledge. I found everyone is involved and showcase their talents. Some are writing , some are speaking , and some are drawing. THis atmosphere also makes me feel a sense of achievement.

What I need to work on is that I need to increase the chances for every student to practice their speaking skills or vocabulary. It seemed like I didn’t provide sufficient practices for students to master those skills.

For Standards 3

I did a great job collaborating with students through appropriate and accessible communication channels. This fostered a positive learning environment that encouraged openness, inquiry, fairness, and support. This environment naturally fostered individual and collaborative learning, positive social interaction, active engagement, and self-motivation.

Furthermore, I facilitated discussions and activities that led to a deep level of engagement in learning. I effectively used technology to expand student participation in independent learning and higher-order thinking.

However, in the presentation session, I could have provided clearer instructions to students and ensured accessible information was available on both tablets and paper sheets. This is the area I will focus on for improvement.

In summary, the biggest improvement compared to the baseline lesson is the design of the gallery walk activity. This fosters students' communication skills and creates a more dynamic and positive atmosphere. I'm confident this will make the lesson more rigorous. For the next lesson, I'll transition my role to a learning facilitator to support students.
